Horn-like appendages above and below extend the line of the mask, and plates of brass add visual texture. Kwaku Ofosuhene Apenteng creates an image he calls Adamfo, "friendship" in the Akan language. Horns are said to represent power in Ghanaian society, and men from royal families often wear these masks as part of their ceremonial attire.
About our Artist: I studied business and worked for many years in the field, but I wasn't satisfied. In 1984 I was introduced to the carving profession by my cousin who was a carver and also a professional teacher. He taught me how to carve for about a year, which seemed to come naturally to me. I then started a full-time professional carving career late in 1985. I have been carving on my own ever since. I also learned how to decorate my works with brass and beads, making them unique....
